Junior Dos Santos spent Saturday night into Sunday morning in a Houston hospital being treated for cuts and bruises sustained during his fifth round loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 166.

Dos Santos' manager Ana Claudia Guedes told UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani that, all told, the Brazilian fighter received 11 total stitches after the fight — seven above his eye, three in his ear and one in his lip.

During the war of attrition with Velasquez, Dos Santos also suffered some brief memory lapses after the third round but his management team explains that it's normal and they expressed no concerns for his long-term health.

Following his discharge from the hospital, Dos Santos flew home to Brazil where he is currently resting and recovering after the fight against Velasquez in Houston.

The loss on Saturday to Velasquez marked is the second in three fights for Dos Santos — and, for all intents and purposes, the loss puts an end to the heavyweight rivalry for now. Dos Santos is still ranked as the No. 1 heavyweight in the world behind Velasquez, however, so he will still present a very tough challenge to anyone looking to get a crack at the belt in 2014 and beyond.
