If you have 20 seconds, around $5,000 and have always wanted piercing blue eyes, you’re in luck. A California doctor named Dr. Gregg Homer says he can permanently turn your muddy brown irises into a piercing shade of blue.
Homer, of Laguna Beach’s Stroma Medical, has been honing his eye color-changing skill for 10 years and says the transformation is possible because blue eyes are hiding and just waiting to shine underneath the layers of brown pigment.
“We use a laser, and it’s tuned to a specific frequency to remove the pigment from the surface of the iris,” he explained to Los Angeles’ KTLA.
According to Homer, after the quick procedure, your body will shed the old tissue and in two to three weeks your eyes will be the sapphire shade you always wanted.
As with any medical procedure, Homer acknowledges there is always a chance that something could go wrong. But he insists his wide range of tests have shown no tissue damage.
Thousand of eager people have reportedly been emailing the doctor with their reasons for wanting to turn their brown eyes blue. If you’re one of them, you’ll have to wait just a little while longer.
He still has another year of research to complete on the procedure. If all goes well, it’s predicted to be available outside the United States in 18 months and in the U.S. in three years.
“The eyes are the windows to the soul,” Homer said. “So this idea that people can actually see into it… a blue eye is not opaque. You can see deeply into it. A brown eye is very opaque and I think there is something meaningful about this idea of having open windows to the soul.”
Sorry. No word on if this procedure can work the same magic on green or hazel eyes.
