What do a social media manager, a firefighter, and a law clerk have in common? Turns out, they might be some of the very best jobs for a healthy work-life balance.

While a positive attitude always helps in achieving happiness at work, measured the work-life balance ratings that were shared on their site between July 2013 and July 2014.

Based on ratings from a 5-point scale (“very dissatisfied” to “very satisfied”) the career site found the best jobs for well-rounded experiences.

Here are the top 10:

  • Data Scientist
  • SEO Specialist
  • Tour Guide
  • Lifeguard
  • Social Media Manager
  • Group Fitness Instructor
  • User Experience Designer
  • Corporate Communications
  • Firefighter
  • Equity Trader/Law Clerk/Investment Analyst/Administrative Assistant

Glassdoor interviewed some of the lucky people with balanced jobs, and the overarching similarities between these seemingly-random occupations are threefold: Working alongside other talented people, good company culture (including decent pay and nice perks—whether it’s classes for tour guides or gym memberships for lifeguards), and flexible schedules.

This study comes just over a year after a report from Hay Group, where 40% of employees reported that their organizations do not provide sufficient work-life balance support. Take note, employers: 27% of people who don’t think their company supports work-life balance plan to leave in the next two years, compared to only 17% of people who are happy with their company’s balance. Perhaps we can expect lots of Data Scientist applications in the near future.
