Five Questions with ‘The Muppets’ Star Miss Piggy

It’s time to play the music! It’s time to light the lights!

Today, “The Muppets” makes its debut on XFINITY On Demand and DVD/Blu-ray combo-pack. The highly anticipated film opened in November to rave reviews and went on to gross more than $150 million worldwide, making it the most successful Muppets film ever.

The story follows all your Muppet favorites as they reunite with a few new friends (Jason Segel, Amy Adams and a new Muppet named Walter) to save the old Muppets Studio from cruel businessmen. The movie includes cameos by Neil Patrick Harris, Emily Blunt, Selena Gomez, Dave Grohl, Jim Parsons, Jack Black and more.

I recently caught up with the Muppets’ resident diva, Miss Piggy, for a poignant (and hammy) conversation about fashion, politics and lunch.

David Onda: Kermit the Frog has always been your on-screen leading man. Have you ever considered someone else? A Clooney or Pitt, perhaps?

Miss Piggy: Kermit is my one and only leading man, in real life and on-screen. However, if George and Brad desperately want to work with moi, who am I to let them down? I’m ready when they are!

Onda: In the fast-paced world of fashion, how does a pig keep up with the latest trends?

Piggy: Moi doesn’t keep up with trends, moi sets the trends. I do this by keeping in touch with many of the world’s finest designers, such as Jason Wu, Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs – and allowing them to make original dresses for moi! I provide the inspiration, they provide the free wardrobe! What’s not to love!?

Onda: “The Muppets” was your first big-screen film in more than a decade. Did you attend any acting classes to brush up on your craft?

Piggy: No, I did not need to brush up on my craft. You see, I am always acting. For instance, right now I’m acting like I’m interested in your questions.

Onda: Ouch! Ok, Piggy – are you a democrat or republican?

Piggy: I’m an independent, though I do tend to vote for the Diva Party… and the Diva Afterparty.

Onda: What’s the biggest misconception about Miss Piggy?

Piggy: That I’m difficult. Have I been difficult here today? Of course not. By the way, where are you taking moi for lunch?

Onda: Um, what lunch?

Piggy: You’re not providing lunch? I came all this way for a silly interview and you can’t even feed me!  This is an outrage! A travesty of a sham! I am outta here! Harrrrummmmph!

“The Muppets” is now available on XFINITY On Demand and the Wocka Wocka Value Pack, which contains the movie on Blu-ray high-definition, DVD and digital copy (3 discs) plus a download card for the film’s soundtrack from Walt Disney Records.
