Gru and his girls are back in “Despicable Me 2,” an all-new adventure that finds the former super villain (voiced by Steve Carell) teaming up with the Anti-Villain League to hunt down a budding baddie who aims to rule the world with an army of purple mutants.
And while the antics of Margo, Edith and Agnes (and Dr. Nefario) provide more than enough laughs for the “Despicable” fan in all of us, it’s Gru’s goggled henchman – the little yellow kernel-shaped Minions – who truly steal the show in Universal’s animated sequel.
With XFINITY On Demand, you can now own “Despicable Me 2” weeks before it’s available on DVD and for rental.
Check out the seven best new Minion moments you’ll be talking about. (Warning: Minor spoilers all the way to the bottom. “Heh-heh. Bottom.”)
7. Dave Falls in Love
“Earth to Dave!” Before Gru becomes entranced by his Anti-Villain League partner Lucy Wilde (voiced by Kristen Wiig), Dave the Minion daydreams about his life with the AVL beauty while gazing into her peepers. Who knew Minions are so romantic?
6. Minion Island
Even Minions need a little rest and relaxation. Unfortunately, this is one tropical vacation the little nuggets didn’t ask for. On the plus side, there are plenty of coconut bikinis to go around, and the Minions don’t hesitate to flaunt what they’ve got.
5. Be-do, Be-do, Be-do!
In a fit of disgust over his inability to talk to women, Gru torches his telephone sending the Minions into panic mode (complete with Minion-made fire alarm) as they scurry to put out the flames. As you would expect, they do even more damage in the process.
4. Minions to the Rescue (Again)
When Lucy Wilde asks Gru to accompany her to the AVL, he isn’t too keen on the idea. Lucy counters Gru’s reluctance by stuffing him in the trunk of her car. Thankfully, a couple of Minions witness the Gru-napping in progress and snap into action to save their boss.
3. Ice Cream Party
What’s the one thing Minions love more than taking over the world? Ice cream… apparently. “Despicable Me 2” gives filmgoers a sugar-fueled glimpse at Minion life after business hours, and let’s just say the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flow freely.
2. All-4-One… and All for Minions!
We all know Minions are skilled in all aspects of villainy, but did you know these giggly henchmen boast the vocal range of a Vienna Boys’ Choir? Well, at least they boast the vocal range of a ’90s R&B group if they sucked on a bundle of helium balloons.
1. The Minion Auditions
Don’t jump out of your seats (or take off your 3D glasses) when the credits start rolling! In December 2014, the Minions will be getting their very own movie, “Minions.” And in preparation for their day in the spotlight, three of the Minions occasionally interrupt the credits to audition for their role in the film. They won’t be getting a callback.
