Student Heads to Court for Stealing Ice Cubes

A college student in New Jersey is facing charges for the cool crime of snagging a cup half filled with ice cubes, the Asbury Park Press reports.

Cedric Calero was buying french fries at Brookdale Community College when the alleged $1.80 theft occurred. Having paid for his snack, he went to ask the clerk for a cup, but the woman had walked away.

Assuming cups were free, the 18-year-old freshman grabbed a cup, filled it with ice and sat down.

That’s when a manager approached him and accused him of stealing the ice cubes. The Asbury Park Press reports that he offered to pay for the drink, but the cops were already on their way.

Outraged at the charges and possible consequences, Calero and his family will fight back in court next week.

“I don’t know why they would want to brand him a criminal when all he did was take a cup of ice,” Calero’s mother told the paper.
