City’s Fireworks Go Up in Flash

Those heading to San Diego for the city’s Big Bay Boom fireworks display certainly got to see a big boom.

It just didn’t last very long.

In what NBC San Diego reports was a “technical difficulty,” the company hired to set off the July 4 spectacular accidentally ignited all of the show’s fireworks at once.

A display that should have lasted several minutes erupted into a 15-second explosion that reportedly shook the city just before 9 p.m.

There were no injuries reported, but dejected spectators were told to pack up by 9:20 p.m.

NBC reports that organizers released a statement explaining that the fireworks company would be “working throughout the night to determine what technical problem caused the entire show to be launched in about 15 seconds.”
