Russell Brand has filed for divorce from singer Katy Perry after just 14 months of marriage.
TMZ reports that Brand, 36, cited “irreconcilable differences” in the divorce documents.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends,” the comedian said in a statement.
The once-inseparable pair, who married in a lavish Indian ceremony in October of 2010, was spotted on different sides of the world during the holidays.
Perry, 27, vacationed in Hawaii with pals while Brand had a quiet Christmas in his native Britain. Neither wore their wedding band.
TMZ speculates that Brand surprised Perry with the divorce filing, a rumor that has not yet been confirmed.
Brand defended their marriage on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” earlier this month, denying any problems between the two.
“I’m really happily married … I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive,” he said.
