Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, former Miss World turned Bollywood actress, is considered the world’s “Most Beautiful Woman” and India’s sweetheart. But despite her iconic status, the media and public who once adored her are bashing her post-baby body.
According to ABC News, India’s view of women and obsession with beauty has been called into question after headlines like, “SHOCKING! Fat Aishwarya Rai!” and “Aishwarya’s Baby Fat Woes!” were reported after the new mom was seen carrying leftover baby weight seven months after giving birth to her daughter, Aaradhya.
And the Indian public hasn’t been much kinder. After “Bollywood CIA” posted a video to Youtube picturing her before and after body with the sound of an elephant trumpeting in the background, users were quick to weigh in.
One comment read: “Instead of losing some of her flab after her delivery, the Bachchan Bahu has gained 5 or 6 kilos…we think it is time she hire a good trainer to help her sweat it out in the gym.”
One exceptionally harsh Twitter user wrote: “The woman is in the PUBLIC eye! Her baby is 7 months old and she looks like she gave birth yesterday! Not to mention she has a double chin! Sorry, many of us have had kids and WORKED hard to lose it. Motherhood doesn’t give you license to be overweight.”
Surprisingly, Rai Bachchan appears to be unaffected by this national critique. Reports say she is planning to walk the red carpet in Cannes this week. She is expected to bring her new daughter as well, which she has done often since giving birth.
