UPDATE: Bialik will apparently keep her left thumb. Her Twitter account was updated at just past 4:30 PDT with the following message: “In pain but will keep all my fingers,” although the actress admitted that her husband was the one to type the message.
EARLIER POST: ‘The Big Bang Theory’ actress Mayim Bialik sustained serious injuries in a car accident in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, according to TMZ.com, and may be in danger of losing a thumb on her left hand.
The 36-year-old actress was traveling alone in her white Volvo in Hollywood when a car carrying three tourists from Chile turned into her vehicle at Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea and caused the crash, according to People magazine.
One source told TMZ that Bialik sustained major damage to her left hand and “her finger was almost completely severed … it was just hanging there.”
Sgt. Monte Houze of the LAPD said that Bialik suffered “a severe injury to her left thumb” and was taken to a local hospital. “From what I was told, there was a lot of blood at the scene,” says Houze.
The tourists were not cited or detained for the accident, according to local police.
In addition to her role as Amy Farrah Fowler on ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ Bialik is perhaps best known for her teenage role as Blossom Russo on the sitcom ‘Blossom.’ She has also been a prominent proponent of attachment parenting, and is the author of ‘Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way.’
