Madonna Tells French Crowd: ‘I Forgive Elton John!’

Madonna took a moment during a concert Tuesday night in Nice, France to extend an olive branch to fellow pop icon Sir Elton John, and said she forgave him for calling her “a fairground stripper.”

According to, the Material Girl dedicated her song “Masterpiece” to Sir Elton, saying, “”I know he’s a big fan of it. And I know he’s a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere.”

However, the move may have been more sassy slam than sincere gesture of good will.

“Masterpiece” is the song that beat out John’s “Hello Hello” for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes in January, when Sir Elton’s husband David Furnish blasted the choice, saying Madonna was “desperate” and calling her acceptance speech “embarrassing in its narcissism.”

Since then, Madge and the Rocket Man have been at odds. Before her half-time Super Bowl performance,  John bid Madonna good luck by saying, “Make sure you lip-sync good,”  says the Huffington Post

And in the now-infamous Australian TV interview Elton called Madonna a “nightmare,” reported USA Today. He said at the time, “Sorry, her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t happen to a bigger (expletive).”

Now it seems the question is whether this was a true attempt at a cease fire, or just another bullet across the bow of their long-running feud.
