On Sunday night, Beyoncé gave one of the most impressive performances of her career during the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show.
Unfortunately, the universal praise for her flashy and fast-paced mini-concert was not enough for the constantly watchful eye of the Hollywood publicity machine.
Shortly after posting its list of Beyoncé’s “33 Fiercest Moments,” entertainment smorgasbord Buzzfeed received a phone call from Mrs. Carter’s publicist asking that the site remove several “unflattering” photos of the star’s performance. The conversation was followed by this email:
“Thanks for taking my call. As discussed, there are some unflattering photos on your current feed that we are respectfully asking you to change. I am certain you will be able to find some better photos. The worst are #5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 19 and 22. Thank you very much.”
Rather than protecting her obviously beautiful client from a series of “fierce” photos — including the one above, which is readily available via Getty photo agency — the publicist has unfortunately given the images far more negative exposure than they would have gotten otherwise.
For their part, Buzzfeed has not removed the photos, outed the publicist instead, and asked for further explanation of the request. So far, they have not received a response.
