Actress Karen Black has been battling cancer for more than five years. Now the “Five Easy Pieces” star is turning to fans for financial support, according to People Magazine.

The 73-year-old Oscar-nominee has had a rough bout since being diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November 2010. Her husband Stephen Eckelberry explained on the “Help Karen Beat Cancer” GoFundMe website that the “Airport 1975” actress has had a third of her pancreas removed.

The “Easy Rider” actress was considered cancer-free in 2011, but she has suffered a relapse. According to her husband she weighs 96 pounds and is “mostly bed-bound.”

The couple is seeking donations to fund a two-month experimental treatment in Europe that is not covered by health insurance.

Black’s husband writes, “This is a medically supervised program and it targets Karen’s kind of cancer. We personally know two of the patients that have had remarkable recoveries from cancer there. It is her best and only shot.”

Over $40,000 has poured in through the website. Eckelberry gives his word that the donations are being utilized the right way.

“In the last two years we have used up all of our savings keeping Karen alive,” he explains. “Your contribution will cover travel, living and treatment expenses for two months and will give Karen a chance.”
