Despite decades of ‘Star Wars’ royalties, Mark Hamill apparently can’t afford a pack of smokes. The 61-year-old actor was recently spotted digging through a public ashtray for cigarette butts, according to the Daily Mail.
The unusual scavenger hunt took place outside of an L.A. studio. After Hamill found enough cigarette butts for his fix, he hopped into his luxury BMW and smoked them.
It’s unclear why Luke Skywalker would be reduced to rummaging through trash for cigarettes. The actor has been working frequently in recent years, from voicing The Joker in an animated Batman series to appearances on the TV shows “Criminal Minds” and “The Neighbors.”
Hamill’s public profile has been raised even higher by the announcement of a new “Star Wars” trilogy in the works. While he hasn’t officially signed on to the project, rumors are rampant that he will appear in it alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.
After his bizarre dive for used butts, Hamill reportedly headed to a fast-food joint where he scarfed down a burger and soda before tossing his trash in the street.
What can we say except “Use the force, Luke” — or at least a trash receptacle next time.
