The royal baby has left the building!
Prince William, Kate Middleton and their newborn son, whose name has not yet been released, departed from the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London just after 7:00 p.m. GMT.
Middleton gave birth to the 8-pound, 6-ounce baby boy yesterday afternoon at 4:24 p.m.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge emerged with the new prince, whose official title is HRH Prince of Cambridge, to exuberant cheers from the large crowd gathered outside of the hospital.
Will and Kate, who donned a polka dot dress very similar to the frock worn by Princess Diana in 1982 when presenting Prince William, posed for a few photographs before answering questions from the press.
Prince William said, “Well, he’s got a good pair of lungs on him, that’s for sure. He’s a big boy, he’s quite heavy. We’re still working on a name so we’ll have that as soon as we can. It’s the first time we have seen him really, so we’re having a proper chance to catch up. It’s very emotional.”
Middleton added, “It’s very emotional and it’s such a special time. I think any parent will know what this feeling feels like.”
“I’ll remind him of his tardiness when he’s a bit older. I know how long you guys have been sat out here. Hopefully the hospital and you guys can all go back to normal and we can look after him,” William added. “He’s got her looks, thankfully.”
The couple also revealed that Prince William has already been put on diaper duty. “Yes, he’s done the first nappy already,” Kate said.
The royal trio headed home, with Prince William behind the wheel, to Kensington Palace, the official residence of William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales, from 1981 until her death in 1997.
Will and Kate aren’t the first royals to present their child at St. Mary’s. Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana showed off a newborn Prince William on the very same steps in 1982.
