I’ll Have Another, the winner of the 2012 Kentucky Derby and the Preakness has been reportedly scratched from Saturday’s 144th running of the Belmont Stakes, according to trainer Doug O’Neill. I’ll Have Another was the early odds-on favorite to win the Belmont Stakes and possibly become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
According to SBNation, O’Neill confirmed the scratch in an interview this morning on the “Dan Patrick Show.” O’Neill told Patrick, “We ain’t taking any chances,” and that the scratch “is a bummer, but far from tragic.” O’Neill then intimated that his prized horse may have run his final race.
