O’Reilly Auto Parts 500: Highlights and Analysis

Lap 334 (5:16pm ET): Jimmie Johnson wins his first race of the season and the seventh of his career at Texas Motor Speedway. So much for that tough start to 2017, huh?

Lap 327 (5:11pm ET): Lucky number seven – The 7-time Cup Series champion is closing in on his 7th career victory at Texas Motor Speedway.

Lap 313 (5:04pm ET): Smithers is all Joey Logano fans right now. Can the 22 release the hounds and reach Victory Lane at Texas?

Lap 301 (4:53pm ET): Well, this just got interesting…I’m betting on one of the Hendrick teammates (Earnhardt or Johnson) to pull this one out.

Lap 275 (4:40 pm ET): Logano now your leader at Texas. We’re almost under 50 laps to go in the ‘Lone Star State’. Don’t go anywhere!

Lap 244 (4:24pm ET): We’re through 244 at Texas, and Truex looks poised for his second victory this season. Can anyone catch No. 78?

Lap 221 (4:14pm ET): Harvick and Jr. head to pit road for some tune-ups. Truex now the leader as action rolls on at Texas.

Lap 198 (4:01pm ET): Grab a cold drink and some tasty snacks, and settle in for a fantastic finish in the ‘Lone Star State’.

Lap 171 (3:43pm ET): Also, this. Blaney Tinder game strong. I’m swiping right on his chances to reach Victory Lane.

Lap 170 (3:41pm ET): Ryan Blaney banks his second stage win of the day. Can the youngster complete the NASCAR cycle and hoist the hardware at Texas?

Lap 157 (3:32pm ET): Hendrick Motorsports’ drivers gaining ground on the leaders at Texas. This is a much-needed turnaround for the team, but can they convert strong driving into a checkered flag today?

Lap 132 (3:18pm ET): Don’t look now, but Dale Jr. has driven into contention. He hasn’t won at Texas since 2000.

Lap 121 (3:10pm ET): So. Much. Debris today. This wind is really causing problems, and so is the repave.

Lap 93 (2:55pm ET): Martin Truex leads the field into Stage 2. No. 78’s strong season continues, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in Victory Lane later today.

Lap 85 (2:45pm ET): Ryan Blaney takes Stage 1 in impressive fashion at Texas. It’s his first stage win of the season, and the way he is driving now, a trip to Victory Lane is in play today.

Lap 81 (2:42pm ET): The leaders (Blaney, Truex, and Harvick) are out here cruising on this repaved Texas track. Everyone move out of the way!

Lap 62 (2:33pm ET): Debris on the track causing some problems for drivers today. Fans, take some notes.

Lap 55 (2:28pm ET): Ford folks, go ahead and raise your flags. Pure domination so far today.

Lap 41 (2:22pm ET): Kyle Larson lurking at Texas. Leaders should look out for No. 42!

Lap 22 (2:06pm ET): ‘Smoke’ always has the jokes.

Lap 10 (1:59pm ET): Reed Sorenson also involved in this one. Jeffrey Earnhardt done for the day at Texas.

Lap 2 (1:51pm ET): Austin Dillon did not even make it to the starting grid, and is already in the garage with a trailing arm and suspension issue. Tough start for the kid and his team.

Lap 1 (1:49pm ET): We’re finally green at Texas Motor Speedway! Time for 334 laps in the ‘Lone Star State’.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas

After a magical weekend at Martinsville, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500. Kyle Busch hoisted the hardware for this event last season and is sure to be a major factor for Sunday’s race. However, all eyes will be on the performance of Dale Earnhardt Jr. who has struggled mightily out of the gate thus far in 2017. With no top 10s or a finish higher than fourteenth, the pressure is beginning to mount for NASCAR’s most popular driver. Can ‘Junior’ turn his season around with a strong performance in the ‘Lone State State’? Catch all the action live on FOX, and check back here for live lap updates and the latest highlights.
