Fancast Exclusive: Genesis Awards

The scene was all about animals Saturday night at the Hollywood Genesis Awards, hosted by the Humane Society of the United States at the Beverly Hilton, as some of LA’s finest specimens trotted along the red carpet to support their furry friends. The scene was surprisingly mellow for a red carpet, and animal love is what seemed to keep attitudes on the peaceful side. The number one topic in the minds of celebs seemed to be their own lovable pets followed closely in second by a need to bring awareness to animal issues.

Two things I didn’t know before the red carpet: that there’s a vegetarian/vegan TV show AND apparently chickens make great pets according to both Joy Lauren of Desperate Housewives and Linda Cardellini of ER!

Bill Maher and Kaley Cuoco of The Big Bang Theory both quietly snuck past reporters opting to rush straight to the ceremony. Maybe they were hungry for Tempeh? Constance Marie, who’s best known for her work on The George Lopez Show, showed up looking glam in a dress designed by none other than Ms. Marie herself. Word on the street is that she’s currently working on her very own line of clothing.

The mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, also worked the red carpet for a bit before being whisked away. A very pleasant Linda Cardellini of ER, who was looking quite stunning in a strapless black dress, told us she’s currently at work on the film version of Confessions of a Shopaholic with Isla Fisher. Meredith from The Office, Kate Flannery, relayed her excitement to Fancast on being back at work with her Office-mates after the longwinded strike, while Eric Roberts openly discussed his sentiments about working with Heath Ledger on The Dark Knight. Emily Deschanel (a.k.a Bones) left her lab coat at the office and donned a beautiful strapless beige dress. She spoke graciously with us about her passion for animals and her devout vegan ways. The schmoozing along the red carpet didn’t last long, as the commotion began to die down around 6:30. But, where was little Hayden? It was rumored that she was running a little late because of The Kids Choice Awards nearby in Westwood at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. But alas! She made it, just in time and looking quite stunning.
