Fancast Interview: CJ From Wife Swap

CJ is the adorable screamo kid who stole people’s hearts on a recent episode of Wife Swap. Soon after the episode, the blogs were abuzz with people wondering who this guy was who painted his nails black, drew on his walls and loved teasing his temporary mom about the dangers of the wrestling “leotard.” Fancast tracked him down and talked to him about his time on the show. He chatted with us about screamo music and how he would feel about being a guest on Flavor of Love (VH1, are you listening?). Catch a new episode of Wife Swap tonight on ABC.

Tell me a positive thing about Teresa (his temporary mom on the show)?
She is focused on wrestling, so that’s one positive thing. Um, she. I don’t know. How about she woke up early, that was nice. The early bird catches the worm right?

Anything that surprised you about her?
She surprised me in many ways. She surprised me when she woke me up in bed. I was very shocked, I didn’t know what to do. That was surprising to me. She wasn’t really like a surprising person, out to shock you or anything.

What did you learn from the experience?
I guess the experience didn’t change me all that much, just like it showed me to be myself and not change for anyone and do what makes you happy.

You and I know what screamo music is but describe what screamo is to Wife Swap fans on Fancast?
It is a type of music where some words are sung and some words are screamed. It’s heavier than normal music and you won’t find it on the radio that much unless you have Sirius radio.

What’s the name of your band?
Right now I’m in between stuff. The band that I’m going to join probably is Coastal Cities.

Have you tried wrestling at all since the show ended?
No, I have not tried it. It’s just boring, i don’t like it. If it’s for you, it’s for you, but I don’t like wrestling. It’s so boring. You’re gonna smell, you have to do these tricks, it’s just stupid.

What was the most annoying part of filming this episode?
Probably just like, actually we just mentioned it–wrestling. I didn’t feel comfortable. I didn’t do it that much. That one scene that showed me wrestling, that was the only time I’ve ever wrestled. I’ve never gone back. It felt out of my comfort zone. I tried that outfit on once alone but then I didn’t wear it because it was so ridiculous. I looked like a string bean.

Everyone loved you on the show, particularly the videos at the end. Do you do your own video blogging?
I did do some video blogging after the episode actually. I did a couple of videos off of my MySpace, which was funny. I’d like to do some more. Me and my friend would do them together. Not very many people know about it.

Have you gotten a chance to check out all the online buzz about you?
I checked out two things, one on a Fall out Boy message board where they were talking about me. Everything else I have no idea.

What’s something funny on the show that we didn’t see on the air?
We have a George Foreman grill. I’m not sure if Teresa cooked on it or we did but like it was really gross and I like cleaned it with a stick. Just little things like that.

Have you met or talked to the other family?
Me and Cade actually talk on MySpace and we text, he’s actually coming down. We’re actually hanging out.

Are you guys gonna wrestle?
Yeah..we’re gonna break out the matt… [laughs]

What are your short and long-term career plans?
My short term goals are….uh I don’t have any short term goals. But my long term goals are to do music for a living. I know it’s gonna be hard but I’m gonna do it anyways. Whether I’m playing big shows, big stadiums, or gross shows and like bars or something. I’m still gonna do it.

What was your town’s reaction to your family being on the show?

Some people loved it and were like [changing his voice] “huh huh, thanks for sticking up for us” and then this other group, the moms who come into the shop, they’re like [changes his voice to mock moms] “Saw you on TV” and I’m like “uh, ok. Did you like it? Don’t answer.”

If you could be on any other reality TV show, which one would it be and why?
If I could be on any other TV show it would be…the only show that keeps popping into my mind, I almost don’t wanna say it…it’s Flava Flav’s Flavor of Love, because that’d be so funny. Not as dating, which would be freaking weird, but maybe like a spot on it, like I’m helping Flav pick out the girls or something like that [laughs].
