MTV Gets Political!

The MTV network will begin to run political campaign advertisements on its flagship channel, so teens and glassy-eyed twenty-somethings will be bombarded by the messages of Obama, McCain and other presidential hopefuls. No explanation was given for the previous no-politics policy or for the new regulation change, but surely it can’t be uh, the more politically developed teenage minds of today, can it?

Jeannie Kedas, executive vice president of communications for MTV, added, “In each presidential election cycle, there has been increasing engagement among young people. Given that that’s the case, we took a look at the policy and decided that the campaign ads would be a good fit for the audience and would complement what we do for ‘Choose or Lose.’”[NYT]
