Fancast’s Faces Of Fall: Rufus Sewell In Eleventh Hour

By Tom Rose

Jacob Hood, Eleventh Hour
Premieres Thursday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m.

Age: 41

Hometown: Twickenham, England

Where You’ve Seen Him: As Alexander Hamilton on John Adams and as Kate Winslet’s he’s-just-not-that-into-you love interest in The Holiday.

Why He’s Someone To Watch This Fall: Because Jerry Bruckheimer is behind the character. Eleventh Hour brings the original “CSI” team of Bruckheimer and director Danny Cannon back together and the buzz about Dr. Hood, a civilian FBI Scientist, is that he steps into the gaping void left behind since The X-Files went off the air. Plus, the episode budget is one of the highest in history. With an emphasis on Scientific, rather than Supernatural Voodoo, Sewell has the opportunity of stepping into the worn out shoes of Hugh Laurie’s “House” – and it couldn’t come at a better time.

Quote: “To me, the idea of doing something that had many dimensions, that was actually, to some extent, quite heroic, but not in a square-jawed sense, but someone who is ultimately a good guy, with many layers and complex, with a gray character, not black or white, and with a long arc to tell that story, with many different directions and a lot of potential depth, that really, really appealed to me. Edginess? Certainly, but that’s not something that attracts me. To tell you the truth, I get enough of that.” –On why he chose the role, which is a departure from the edgy characters he’s played in the past..
