“Slumdog Millionaire” Takes Home 7 BAFTA Awards

Danny Boyle’s much-beloved surprise of the season Slumdog Millionaire continued its love-fest with award-giver-outers by nabbing 7 of the 11 British Academy of Film and Television Awards for which it was nominated, relegating The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to the technical awards. The BAFTAs, the DAGs, the WGAs, the PGAs, the SAGs and the Golden Globes all hopped aboard the Slumdog gravy train, and the big money is on Oscar to do the same.

It’s still Kate Winslet’s year for finally getting all the awards she deserves, as she picked up Best Lead Actress for The Reader (I guess everyone is deciding to ignore Revolutionary Road). Mickey Rourke’s comeback is still on track with his Best Lead Actor win, and Heath Ledger picked up another posthumous nod in the supporting actor category. But really, it’s Slumdog’s season, and everyone else is just along for the ride.
