Eddie Murphy to Star in Richard Pryor Biopic

We all remember Eddie Murphy: Raw, right? His 1987 stand-up comedy special when he was in his prime? You can’t forget the classic bit where Eddie talks about what an inspiration Richard Pryor was to him, to the point of backing him up when Bill Cosby chastised him for being too dirty. “Do the people laugh when you say what you say? Do you get paid? Well, tell Bill I said have a Coke and a smile and shut the f–k up!” Eddie had Pryor’s voice down perfectly. Check out the movie here (and patiently wait until the gay jokes are over) and see it for yourself. It’s right towards the beginning.

As we revealed to you last week, Dreamgirls director Bill Condon is planning to make a biographical drama based on Pryor’s amazing life story entitled Is It Something I Said? Now we hear that Eddie Murphy is attached. Considering the fact that Dreamgirls is the best thing he has done in the last decade, earning him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, it makes sense for Condon to try and make it happen again. If Jamie Foxx can win an Oscar for his Ray Charles impression, Murphy can certainly get one for his Pryor.

Remember how great Eddie was in Dreamgirls? If you don’t, watch him work it in this clip.
