‘Life on Mars’ Canceled

ABC is done exploring “Life on Mars.”

The New York City cop drama starring Jason O’Mara, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol and Harvey Keitel has been canceled, according to TV Week.

The network announced it’s not ordering any more episodes beyond the 17 scheduled for the current season.

The good news: “Mars” should be able to complete its mission.

Five episodes remain, so issuing notice now gives the writers time to wrap up the series properly and give fans closure on the big mystery surrounding the show. Detective Sam Tyler (Jason O’Mara) was hit by a car in the present day and wakes up in 1973. The series is based on the British hit, which ran for 16 episodes.

ABC likely didn’t want to face the same backlash it did when it axed shows with small-yet-loyal followings like “Pushing Daisies,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” and “Eli Stone.”

The finale of “Life on Mars” is expected to air in April.

So any guesses? Is Sam Tyler: In a coma? Crazy? Dead? Aliens?
