Tuned In: What’s Hot, Hotter And Definitely Not Happening In TV

What’s Hot: Thursday Ratings

A special Thursday night wild-card round of “American Idol” helped Fox edge CBS in the nightly ratings, but a guest appearance by music superstar Taylor Swift propelled “CSI” to big numbers.

Wild cards Anoop, Jasmine, Megan, and as a bonus, Matt (The Lucky 13!) helped “Idol” pull in 21 million viewers, but “CSI” was just behind, with just under 21 million. “Survivor: Tocantins” pulled in its typical 12 million, while “Eleventh Hour” was up to 12.1 million with the help of the strong “CSI” lead-in.

What’s Hotter: CSI

Although many people miss William Petersen as Gil Grissom on the show, it’s becoming clearer and clearer that the series hasn’t missed a beat with the addition of Laurence Fishburne. Last night, “CSI” pulled in 21 million viewers, its biggest audience since Grissom’s farewell episode on January 15th. Sure having a hot guest star like Taylor Swift on didn’t hurt, but those other networks hoping “CSI” might cool off a bit with Petersen’s departure might just have to wait a few more seasons…if at all.

What’s Definitely Not Happening:

Ugly Betty” lost almost 500,000 viewers from its last new outing and is about to go on hiatus while ABC experiments in the 8pm hour with a comedy block of “In the Motherhood” and “Samantha Who?” There have been rumors of a fourth season renewal coming soon from ABC, but so far no word as of yet. You have to wonder, if ratings continue to drop if we’ll seeing more of the Suarez clan come this fall.

Sunday Sizzlers:

  • The L-Word: 9pm on Showtime After five seasons, say goodbye to all your favorites in the series finale. All might not be lost however, as there is a spin-off in the works.
  • Breaking Bad: 10pm on AMC It’s the season premiere of AMC’s much buzzed about series. Yeah, it’s dark, and yeah it’s a bit out there, but there’s a reason Bryan Cranston won the Best Actor Emmy. Tune in and find out why.
  • Celebrity Apprentice: 8pm ET on NBC With Andrew Dice Clay already gone, will there be anyone lleft to entertain us? Don’t forget, Dennis Rodman is still around, and the ladies don’t seem to like poker superstar Annie Duke too much. Let the catfights begin!
