The Top 11 on “American Idol” helped Fox to another easy Tuesday night ratings win, but audiences might have been out celebrating the luck of the Irish as viewership was down across the board on St. Patrick’s Day. CBS powerhouses “The Mentalist” and “NCIS” both saw season (and in “The Mentalist’s” case, series) low numbers… although most other shows would kill to pull in 16 million viewers.
In fact, every single show on the major networks was down from its previous new outing, including “Reaper” on The CW, “The Biggest Loser” on NBC and even “Dancing with the Stars,” which pulled in a rather pedestrian 12 million to say goodbye to Belinda Carlisle.
The Real Housewives franchise continues to get stronger and stronger for Bravo. Currently airing is the deliciously fun second season of “The Real Housewives of New York” and next up is the premiere of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” As the tagline promises, yes we expect bigger hair and bigger drama. What’s up after New Jersey you ask? Well, only the second season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” starring NeNe and Kim, and a new housewife that will replace the departing DeShawn. Atlanta set a franchise high in viewers, and we admit it, we just can’t get enough of this brand. And yes, I’d so watch “The Real Housewives of Des Moines.” I’m officially hooked.
What’s Definitely Not Happening: Chopping Block
We’ll see if “Chopping Block” can rebound tonight on NBC with its second episode. The Week 1 numbers were abyssmal however, finishing fourth in the timeslot, even behind “America’s Next Top Model.” Are people tiring of the cooking show genre? It does seem a bit overexposed at the moment with “Top Chef,” “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Kitchen Nightmares” also out there recently. Or could it just be the show? Tonight’s numbers will tell a lot.
