No, this isn’t Meryl Streep’s upcoming Julia Child biopic Julie & Julia, so let’s end the confusion there. This is just Julia, a film starring Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton in a role starkly different from Karen Crowder of Michael Clayton, despite the similar theme of desperate women turning to crime. Here, she’s playing an “out of control, suicidal, blind alcoholic” who hits rock bottom, and then gets herself involved in a kidnapping & extortion plot as a means to turn her luck around. Things like this never work how they’re supposed to, though, and Julia winds up on the run for her life. She then has to decide whether or not hers is a life she even wants to save.
