The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around for 25 years now. How old do you feel now?
The Tribeca Film Festival is celebrating this anniversary with a showing of the original live-action Turtles film, and the announcement has now come that another live-action film is being planned for 2011, to focus on the origins of Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo and Donatello as well as their master Splinter. Of course, their actual origins were in comic books created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and they were a bit grittier than they were in their brightly-colored early 1990s cartoon series and movies. Laird is an executive producer for the new film, and he says it will stay true to the original comics, and it may also employ “face replacement technology” so the turtles can be a bit more expressive than they were back in the day. Will Vanilla Ice return for a new Ninja Rap like he busted out in the second live-action film, as shown above? We can only hope!
Lest you forget, back in 2007, our heroes on the half-shell made their cinematic return in computer-animated form with TMNT.
