David Cook’s Brother Dies of Brain Cancer

‘American Idol’ winner David Cook’s older brother, Adam, succumbed to brain cancer early yesterday and passed away at a hospice in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Adam Cook, 36, battled the disease for 11 years, which had spread to his spine. He is survived by his wife, Kendra, and their children.

Just hours after his brother has passed, David made the announcement at the 12th Annual Race for Hope 5K run/walk in Washington, D.C. which raises money for brain cancer research. David was the event’s honorary chairman and helped raise $97,000 for the cause.

David’s official statement as well as video of the speech he gave in Washington are below.

Hello, everyone. It is with great sadness I share with you that David announced at the Race for Hope this morning that his beloved older brother Adam had lost his battle with cancer late last night/early this morning.

Just a quick note to let’s, out of love and respect for David and his family, offer our thoughts and/or prayers, as well as our support and understanding, but otherwise please respect their privacy at this time. Thank you.

An official announcement will, no doubt, be forthcoming.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Dave and his family, to Kendra and the children, and to everyone whose lives are affected by this great loss. I am now without words … *tears*

ETA: I have received many messages throughout the day from fans wanting to show their support in more than just words. At this time, I would ask you please either consider making a donation to the Race for Hope (link below) or have patience until the wishes of the family are made known to us. Thank you. ~L
