J.J. Abrams’ long-awaited rebooting of Gene Roddenberry’s ingenious star-faring franchise finally arrives, with Chris Pine stepping into the role of James T. Kirk and telling the story of how he got involved with Starfleet and formed his initially-adversarial relationship with the half-Vulcan Spock (Zachary Quinto). Eric Bana plays a vengeful Romulan whose nefarious schemes unite the familiar names of the U.S.S. Enterprise – McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho), Chekov (Anton Yelchin) and Scotty (Simon Pegg) – under Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood). But what does the appearance of the elder Spock (Leonard Nimoy) mean for the future of these young men and women? The answers will come in the form of many sequels. Try not to think too hard and enjoy the ride.

If you’re not in the mood for nerdy space action, there’s always this drug-soaked action comedy to check out. Donald Faison and Mos Def star as deliverymen who drop off a huge box of narcotics at the wrong apartment, leading to crazy mistaken-identity hijinks and gunplay as the angry dealers try to track down where their product went, and the two low-rent hoodlums who get the package (Wood Harris, Mike Epps) try to capitalize on their unexpected gain.
