Shanna Moakler confirms to USMagazine.com that she has resigned her position as pageant director of the Miss California USA organization, saying that it is in her “best interest” to exit at this time.
“I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth,” she said to the magazine. “I want to be a role model for young woman with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams.”
The announcement comes a day after Donald Trump stated that Carrie Prejean would get to keep her title as Miss California – even after nude photographs were leaked of the beauty queen.
During a press conference on Monday, Moakler indicated that Prejean may be in breach of contract with the Miss USA pageant due to her “telemarketing” phone calls where she asked the public for donations and signatures for the campaign against same-sex marriage. She added that “Carrie has been unavailable to us…because of her commitment to outside organizations.” It is unclear why after this conference, Donald Trump decided to allow Prejean’s title to be upheld.
