‘Top Model’ Runner-up Allison: “I Had a 100% Feeling” It Would Be Teyona

Allison Harvard, a 20-year-old art student from New Orleans, barely lost out on the title of America’s Next Top Model. Going into the final panel Wednesday night, she and Teyona were pretty much on an even keel. Both girls took beautiful pictures, while their runway walks could use some work. Allison grew by leaps and bounds in the competition, showing Tyra and the other judges that she had what it takes to step it up as a model. But in the end, Teyona was chosen for her passion and Allison was declared the runner-up. The big-eyed beauty talked to Fancast about her time on the show, her future modeling goals, and what the heck was up with that baby oiled runway?

What was your feeling going into judging?

Before walking out I remember Teyona shaking a little bit. After such a long journey together, I just found closure. I whispered to Teyona, “You have this. You’ve got this. You don’t have anything to worry about.” I had a 100 percent feeling it would be her, but it was completely intuitive.

How did you feel about Teyona’s win?

I’m happy for her. It was so refreshing to see her reaction was taken aback and humble. It’s wonderful for her. I think everything worked out.

Did you expect to make it so far in the competition?

Absolutely not. I had no idea I would make it as far as I did. I think I was just as surprised as a lot of people.

What are your plans now?

I’m just going to see where all of this takes me. Hopefully I can do a little bit of travelling; I would love to continue modeling. I would love to see what kind of things come from this. I’ve had so much fun and I’ve learned so much that it makes me want to pursue this while I can.

Were you nervous about the final runway?

The runway for me was just an opportunity for me to have a nervous breakdown. I don’t really know how to walk. But it was the final runway, so much was going on I didn’t have time to have an anxiety attack until I walked out. It was kind of a whirlwind. You were just pushed out there and didn’t have time to panic, which certainly worked in my favor. It was the first time I didn’t feel like I was about to pass out. It was the most fun out of everything.

What was the purpose of the rolling around in baby oil?

I had no idea what was going on. Jay explained to us that they had a last-minute idea and we were all distributed very generic black swim suits. They just started dousing us with baby oil. It was just a shocker finale. I didn’t really expect it, and it ended up being a lot of fun. But it was unexpected from my standpoint!

They said Teyona wanted it more… is that a valid reason to give someone the title?

I understand that it is a television show. It’s for entertainment. Some of the reasons and justifications and viewpoints that are presented don’t necessary have to do with the real world exactly. I think people express wanting something in different ways. Teyona may have seemed more determined or may have seemed hungrier for it, but I’m more of a subtle person with how I express myself. I would change anything, but as far as it being justified, I can’t really say either or. I think everything worked out.

You were described as alien-like and baby doll, then at the end it was sexy and cute. What was that transformation like and how does it feel to be described that way?

I think it’s hysterical to be described as sexy. I don’t think I’m sexy. I think that it was phenomenal because it was a self-discovery process and a rediscovery process. We were thrown into such a science experiment where you were put into situations that you would never in a million years put yourself into. You have to deal with them and get yourself out of those situations gracefully. It was a learning experience in that way because I think I grew a lot from them.
