Candy Spelling: Tori’s Estrangement Killed My Husband

Oxygen is touting the fourth season premiere of “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” as a success, since the reality show starring Tori Spelling drew a record rating among 18 to 49 year old women. One woman who should have enjoyed it but didn’t? Tori’s mother, Candy Spelling.

Interviewed on a Springfield, Mass, radio station, Spelling said she is mystified by her ongoing and well-publicized estrangement from her daughter. “I don’t know what the anger is,” she said. “My daughter one day decided that she wasn’t speaking to my husband, myself and my son and that’s how it’s continued for the last, oh gosh, four or five years.”

In fact, Spelling, who was married to legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling (“Dynasty”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “The Love Boat”, “Beverly Hills 90210”), blamed her daughter’s behavior for her husband’s death in 2006.

“It was sad because that’s what killed my husband actually,” she said. “He just didn’t want to live after that. You know, He had done everything … he could possibly do for his daughter and she wanted no part of him once he couldn’t do anything for her.”

Spelling’s remarks, coming while she promotes her book “Stories From Candyland,” her memoir of life with her famous husband, has especially shocking on the heels of her daughter’s recent explanation that the rift has been exaggerated.

What’s Tori’s style?

In April, the 90210 favorite told People magazine: “I love my mother. I’ve always loved her [and] no doubt she loves me. There’s no feud. We simply never meshed. My mother is who she is. I’ve become who I am. At some point I realized those two just didn’t go together.”

Tori and husband Dean Dean McDermott have two children, Liam, 2, and Stella, 10 months, and the actress claims she has not shut her mother out of her life or her children’s.

“She is welcome to make the effort if she wants to be present in their lives,” she said. “She knows how to reach me, she knows where we live. If she would love to see her grandchildren, she should really make an effort to reach out and see them.”

New episode of ‘Tori & Dean‘ premieres Tuesday, June 2 at 10pm ET/PT Osygen.
