Jennifer Aniston: Where Is She Now?

    Name: Jennifer Aniston

    Friend: Rachel Green

    Age: 40

How We Were First Introduced: The daughter of John Aniston, a “Days of Our Lives” star in the 1960s, she signed onto a series of supporting roles in short-lived Fox comedies in the early 1990s, including “Molloy,” which starred a pre-“Blossom” Mayim Bialik, “The Edge” and “Herman’s Head.”

How She Got Onto “Friends”: As the hottest pilot for the fall 1994 season was being put together for NBC, eventual castmate David Schwimmer had an in with creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane. Aniston had to audition the hard way. Not only were 1,000 actors “shortlisted” to initially audition, once three were chosen for each role, the actors who made the cut had to do a personal read for the powerful Les Moonves, who was the rainmaker at “Friends” studio Warner Bros. at the time.

Memorable Scene: The “Friends” writers milked the on-again-off-again thing between Rachel and Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) for all of 10 seasons. But as always, it’s the first kiss that stands out. That came in episode seven of season two, “The One Where Ross Finds Out.”

Personal Life: As surely everyone with at least rabbit ears and dial-up Internet access is aware of by now, Aniston has been dogged by a rocky love life, which included a divorce from Brad Pitt and a more recent breakup with singer John Mayer. But professionally, she’s far and away the most successful “Friends” cast member, ranking No. 8 on Forbes’ just released “Celebrity 100” list. The most sought after actress on the romantic comedies circuit these days, Aniston is now getting more than $8 million a movie at a time when most star salaries are shrinking.

Quote: “I always say, ‘Don’t make plans, make options.’”.”

What She’s Doing Now: In September, Universal is set to release Aniston’s next big romcom, “Love Happens.” This one stars Aaron Eckhart as a widower turned best-selling author on the subject of grief. He soon falls for the Seattle woman (played by Aniston) and finds out he’s still not completely over his own grief.
