The Taking of Pelham 123
First up is the original 1974 version of the Tony Scott film that opened this weekend, starring Walter Matthau as Walter Garber, a transit cop who finds his day marred when a slick team of criminals – Mr. Blue (Robert Shaw), Mr. Grey (Hector Elizondo), Mr. Brown (Earl Hindman) and Mr. Green (Martin Balsam) – hijack a subway car and hold their hostages for ransom. What unfolds is a gritty, tense and occasionally hilarious race against the clock to figure out how these guys expect to escape from a subway tunnel with the money.

Moment By Moment
John Travolta, the star of the aforementioned remake of The Taking of Pelham 123, has had a long and varied career, as evidenced by his first romantic lead in this 1978 film about an ill-fated May-December romance. He plays Strip, a beach drifter in Southern California who meets a rich and bored older housewife named Trisha (Lily Tomlin) and they start up an unexpected affair… although it soon becomes apparent that he’s a lot more into her than she is into him.
