Sit back, chill out and watch some movies this weekend. You could go out to the theater and see that Year One flick that takes place in Biblical times. Or you could watch a pair of those right here on Fancast. Watch Martin Scorsese’s searing drama The Last Temptation of Christ and Richard Lester’s insane comedy A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum after the jump.
The Last Temptation of Christ
Martin Scorsese made a lot of waves back in 1988 with this controversial account of the life of Jesus of Nazareth (Willem Dafoe). This Jesus was not the all-knowing, all-loving picture of perfection that is so often spoken of, but rather a real human being, conflicted and tempted by Mary Magdelene (Barbara Hershey) while dying on the cross and even manipulating Judas (Harvey Keitel) into his betrayal to seal his legacy. Keep an eye out for David Bowie as Pontius Pilate as well.
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum
After all that Biblical heaviness, you’ve got to pick up your spirits with Richard Lester’s hilarious and crazy slapstick comedy based on the smash hit Broadway musical set in ancient Rome. Zero Mostel is a con-man slave named Pseudolus pulling all sorts of cunning manipulations to win his freedom, planning all sorts of skullduggery in three Roman houses – including one run by the senile Erronius (Buster Keaton).
