Emmy Reaction: Keoghan’s ‘Amazing’ Emmy Story

Although Phil Keoghan is not new to the Emmys, his nomination as Outstanding Reality Host for ‘The Amazing Race‘ still caught him off guard.

“I have to say, I wasn’t nominated last year in the host category, I was as a producer. So I even wondered whether I would be this year. I feel very lucky,” he told Fancast Thursday at a ‘Race’ press junket.

What was he doing when his publicist called him with the good news?

“I was standing in my underwear scraping the wall,” he said.

“I’ve got renovations going on in my house right now, so I got up and I needed to check on how things were going, so I went in the garage. There was some plaster that needed to be removed, so I got the scraper and the phone rang. So I had the scraper in one hand, the phone in the other and I was standing there in the garage!”

And with the prestigious nomination comes a flurry a phone calls from family and friends. “I haven’t had a chance to look yet,” he said, looking at his phone. “But hopefully there’s a few. It’s always good news!”

‘The Amazing Race’ has dominated the Outstanding Reality Competition category–winning the Emmy for the last six years in a row!

And the ‘Race’ is on once again: ‘AR’ was nominated for a whopping seven Emmy awards this year.
