FX Nabs ‘Deadwood’s’ ‘Lawman’

There’s a new sheriff in town. Well, not exactly….

Timothy Olyphant is not new to FX nor is he new to playing a lawman, but he’ll be doing both in spring 2010.

FX has picked up 13 episodes of ‘Lawman,’ in which Olyphant stars and Graham Yost (‘Boomtown’) serves as producer, according to Variety.

Olyphant is coming off a successful run as a baddie on the second season of FX’s critically acclaimed ‘Damages,’ and the cable network apparently enjoyed him so much, they are giving the ‘Deadwood’ actor his own show.

The series is based on the Elmore Leonard character Raylan Givens, from his short story “Fire In the Hole.” Olyphant plays Givens, a U.S. marshal whose old-school brand of law enforcement gets him into trouble.

“Graham began with a memorable character from one of America’s foremost crime novelists, Elmore Leonard, and we scored the hat trick signing Tim Olyphant,” said FX president John Landgraf.

Olyphant previously ruled over HBO’s brilliant and bawdy ‘Deadwood‘ as Sheriff Seth Bullock, who tangled with the foul-mouthed and ferocious Al Swearengen (Ian McShane).
