TLC addressed the meltdown surrounding the network’s runaway hit ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8‘ at the Television Critics Press Tour Thursday in Pasadena.
“Over the last four years and through 100 episodes, we’ve captured this remarkable family’s entertaining chaos,” said TLC president Eileen O’Neill in a statement.
“Viewers fell in love and the show developed a loyal, passionate following. But this past spring, life intervened and the family’s status changed. It was certainly something we never expected nor planned to have happen. But this has resulted in unprecedented television.”
“We will continue to capture this family’s journey in a respectful and sensitive way.”
And yes, it sounds as if the show will film both Jon and Kate as they splash around in the dating pool.
“As far as new people and places that may be cycling into Jon and Kate’s life, we are taking it on a case-by-case basis,” O’Neill added, acknowledging the elephant in the room.
O’Neill also revealed what kind of changes viewers can expect to see when the troubled stars return with new episodes next Monday.
One noticeable difference is that the ‘iconic couch’ will be gone. Jon and Kate now have separate chairs to film their interviews from here on out.
Viewers will watch as the newly single parents face new challenges, such as Kate attempting to put up a tent in the backyard, where one of the eight points out she doesn’t do it as well as dad.
Jon struggles as well; in the kitchen, for example, where he finds cooking a pizza is almost as tough as juggling twentysomething blondes.

While bachelor Jon has been making some questionable decisions lately, papa Jon got playful this week while it was his turn at home with the kids, where he was seen walking around the yard wearing Kate’s floppy hat.
‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ returns with new episodes on Monday, August 3rd, on TLC.
