It’s a bit of an odd twist, but Summit is taking no prisoners when it comes to their tentpole franchise. Rachelle Lefevre, who played the vampire Victoria in the original Twilight and the upcoming New Moon, has been given the boot from the role for the third film Eclipse. She’s being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for the last two films in the series. As you might imagine, Lefevre is quite put out at losing her meal ticket.

“I was stunned by Summit’s decision to recast the role of Victoria for Eclipse,” she said. Apparently, they wouldn’t accommodate a shorter shooting schedule for her to help her honor her contract for a 10-day indie flick shoot. “I am greatly saddened that I will not be able to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the Twilight audiences. I am hurt deeply by Summit’s surprising decision to move on without me. I wish the cast and crew of Eclipse only the very best.” For their part, Summit said they are “disappointed with Rachelle Levefre’s recent comments that attempt to make her career choices the fault of the studio,” and also said that she only told them on July 20 that she planned to shoot the other movie in Europe when Eclipse shooting would be starting, citing that as “a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.”

Check out Lefevre’s appearance on the goofy improv comedy Free Radio, defending Twilight from an obnoxious intern thrust into the role of an idiot shock jock, starting at 8:02 in the episode.
