Having a purported sex tape floating around taught Leighton Meester some valuable lessons.
First, that people will believe anything they hear – even when the rumor is false. “[The tape] is not real, so it makes me sort of sad,” she says to Harper’s Bazaar on their September issue. “It’s unfortunate that it got carried as far as it did.”
She adds, “I definitely understand the nature of people better now and that the mere allegation of something like that could be headline news. People think it’s real because somebody says it is.”
And although the ‘Gossip Girl’ sweetheart probably loves her TV success, she’s not so sure about the dark side of fame. “I don’t want most of what comes along with all of this,” she says.
