Fall TV Preview: Reality Rawness

Good reality shows entertain – and keep us tuned in each week. Guilty pleasure reality shows keep us obsessively glued to our TV sets by introducing us to hilarious characters who are so spectacularly clueless that they seem unreal – but who are, in fact, more than real. They are surreal.

Playboy playmates,  LA starlets and football stars in sexy dancing outfits have been our guilty pleasures for several seasons – but now a whole new crop of series are joining the ranks of the scandalous, and taking their place in our list of favorites.

Catch some of the best in this list of Fall TV’s hottest.

‘The Girls Next Door’

Kristina & Karissa Shannon (Playboy)

Show: ‘The Girls Next Door
: Hugh Hefner, Karissa and Kristina Shannon, and occasional guest stars Kendra Wilkinson, Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt.
The Reality:
With former playmates, Kendra, Bridget and Holly, having flown the coop for bigger and better opportunities, the mansion needed some sexy new blood. Enter the wild-child Shannon Twins, Kristina and Karissa.
Why you should watch: These hollaback girls are sisters who don’t seem to mind posing nude together OR getting arrested together. They were slapped with felony aggravated assault charges in 2007 for fighting at a party (forget catfights – think broken bottle fights). The girls’ tempers will clearly be the source of hours of fun in the new season, slated to come back in October.
Get a sneak peek: You can check out a preview of the twins’, um, body of work, in Playboy’s double “Summer Issue,” where the sisters will be Misses July and August.

‘The Lamas Life’

Show: ‘The Lamas Life
Former ‘The Bachelor’ winner Shayne Lamas, dad Lorenzo, brother A.J., and her dad’s ex-wives club, Shauna Sand and Michelle Smith
The Reality:
The show follows Shayne but also features her famous father, Lorenzo, and his, shall we say, complicated relationship with his ex-wives. Shayne herself is a sexy, spunky blond with an eye for comedy. But she’s trying to carve out a life and career for herself in the midst of a complex family situation, where her mother and stepmother don’t get along very well. The two matriarchs end up going head-to-head at a drunken fight at Shayne’s birthday party. How will she deal?
Meet The Family:
Although the series has its wild moments, it is an honest portrayal of the family’s ups and downs. When Shayne talked to us about her father’s career, she was candid and down to earth. “I mean, there was a period of about ten years when he was on top of the world,” she told us. “He had planes and cars and money, and amazing career, and everything he ever wanted. And then one day, it stopped. The jobs stopped and all of a sudden he was stuck. The money wasn’t coming in. Growing up and watching my parents with their ups and their downs, you learn that when you do get a job, it’s a job. Don’t go running around town saying “Oh, I’m so cool.” Just stay humble. It can be taken away from you any second.”
Why you should watch: Because you’ll find out what really happened between the sheets, between AJ Lamas and his former stepmother Shauna Sand (did they have an affair?) – and what AJ’s mom had to say about it. Watch for the show in the fall.

‘Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew’

Cast Of 'Celebrity Rehab' (VH1 Blogs)

Show: ‘Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew
Stars: Dr. Drew Pinsky, Mackenzie Phillips (One Day At A Time), Heidi Fleiss (Former Hollywood madam), Dennis Rodman (Former sports star), Mindy McCready (country music singer), Lisa D’Amato (America’s Next Top Model), Mike Starr (Alice in Chains), Kari Ann Peniche (ex-Miss United States Teen) Joey Kovar (Real World Hollywood), and Tom Sizemore (Film actor).
The Reality: Former stars attempt to come clean about their addictions by going under the care of the famous doctor at a Pasadena facility. All while the cameras are rolling.
Why you should watch: Forget the famous names – the show was thrown into the spotlight recently when Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart’s famous naked tape was leaked to the Net. The trail of the tape led all the way back to this season’s ‘Celebrity Rehab’ house, where Mindy McCready allegedly stole the video from roomie Kari Ann Peniche. Maybe we’ll get to see how the action really went down. Look for the show to premiere in September.

‘The Hills’

Kristin Cavallari (MTV)

Show:The Hills
Stars: Kristin Cavallari, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Lo Bosworth
The Reality: After Lauren Conrad’s departure from the series, producers brought former ‘Laguna Hills’ frenemy Kristin Cavallari back into the mix – and there has already been some dramz. Kristin and Audrina have had a public spat over Justin Bobby and the starlet questioned the ‘realness’ of the show during a recent appearance on ‘Chelsea Lately’. An MTV programming executive has also suggested that Spencer and Heidi will be “considering parenthood” (shudder).
Why you should watch: Kristin seems to have come on board just to mess with the cast. So let’s join in and watch the fun. Watch the premiere on September 29.

‘Dancing With the Stars’

'Dancing With the Stars' (ABC)

Show: ‘Dancing With the Stars’
Stars: Melissa Joan Hart, Mya, Aaron Carter, Natalie Coughlin, Mark Dacasos, Tom DeLay, Macy Gray, Ashley Hamilton, Kathy Ireland, Michael Irvin, Joanna Krupa, Chuck Liddell, Debi Mazar, Kelly Osbourne, Louie Vito, and Donny Osmond.
The Reality: This wildly successful show is in its fourth year – and shows no signs of slowing down.
Why you should watch: A former House Majority Leader, an ultimate fighting champion, Donny Osmond AND an Osbourne kid? This is just too good to pass up. And Melissa told us this week that she was behind in training due to some traveling. Let’s see if she catches up in time for the show! The season premieres September 21.
