Jenna Elfman can’t get away from babies!
The sitcom star, who plays an expectant mom on her new series, announced Wednesday on CBS’ ‘The Early Show‘ that she is pregnant in real life too.
“I have a baby in my tummy–but a real one, not just for my TV show,” Elfman told Julie Chen. “My character’s pregnant the whole first season, so I said, ‘It’s a good time to have another baby, because we won’t have to hide it.'”
This is baby number two for the 37-year-old actress and her husband Bodhi Elfman, who also have a two-year-old son named Story.
I recently chatted with Elfman about her new sitcom ‘Accidentally on Purpose‘ and how being a mom gives you a whole new ‘Purpose’ in life.
“I think it’s a great point of reference going forward in this show because I definitely have a subjective reality,” laughs Elfman, who ‘Accidentally’ spent more time showing off baby pictures than actually talking up the show.
But she’s not concerned about getting back into the grind of a weekly TV series, even with a little one at home–and another baby on board.
“I think you just make it work. Like, today I brought him to work while I got ready, and then we played on the grounds…it’s just time management, really.”
Elfman jumps into CBS’ Monday night comedy lineup this fall playing a thirtysomething film critic who gets pregnant by a younger man (Jon Foster) after a one-night stand. ‘Melrose’ hunk Grant Show complicates things even more with his role as her character Billie’s ex/boss.
With a plotline like that, comparisons to the Katherine Heigl hit movie ‘Knocked Up‘ are inevitable–but Elfman asserts it is purely coincidental.
“I think it’s just a coincidence because this [show] is based off a book and it’s a true story. It completely had nothing to do with ‘Knocked Up,'” Elfman tells me.
The ‘Dharma & Greg’ star’s return to TV lands her on our fall hot list: Check her out in the Cougars vs. Kittens feature in our Fall TV Preview special.
‘Accidentally on Purpose’ premieres Monday, Sept. 21, at 8:30 p.m. on CBS.
