On Demand Today: Crank 2, Observe & Report, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past & More

Comcast On Demand today has four new and interesting offerings for you to check out right from the comfort of your own home. There’s Seth Rogen’s startlingly dark comedy Observe and Report, playing his least likeable character of all time. Then there’s Crank: High Voltage, the unimaginably insane sequel to Jason Statham’s unimaginably insane action flick Crank. For a more easygoing and genuinely romantic time, there’s the dreamy Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in a metaphysical morality tale Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Finally, Lymelife is a low-key indie gem featuring strong performances from Timothy Hutton, Alec Baldwin and a pair of Culkins.

Observe and Report
Seth Rogen takes a dark and twisted turn in what he’s calling “a comedic Taxi Driver.” He stars as Ronnie Barnhardt, a delusional, racist and overly aggressive moron living with an alcoholic mother (Celia Weston) and serving as the head of mall security, obsessed with the pill-popping party girl at the cosmetics counter (Anna Faris). He sees his chance for personal glory when a creepy flasher starts harassing mall customers in the parking lot. Unfortunately for him, a real cop (Ray Liotta) is on the case, and he takes a special interest in absolutely hating Ronnie and messing with him whenever he can. It’s wrong in so many ways, but you can’t take your eyes away.

Crank: High Voltage
They somehow made a sequel to the crazy-ass hyper-adrenalized Crank, despite the fact that Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) falls out of a helicopter at the end of it and lands in a heap on the street. This time, he’s had his heart replaced with a machine that needs constant electric jolts to keep him alive long enough to get his real heart back from organ harvesters. He gets help in fending off his attackers with his late friend Kaylo’s twin brother Venus (Efren Ramirez) and he even tracks down his girlfriend Eve (Amy Smart) while on his no-holds-barred quest to stay alive in Los Angeles long enough to get the job done.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Matthew McConaughey is celebrity photographer Connor Mead, an inveterate lothario who has patterned his hedonistic love-em-and-leave-em life after his late Uncle Wayne (Michael Douglas), but when he goes to his brother Paul’s (Breckin Meyer) wedding and threatens to ruin it with cynicism, Uncle Wayne appears to him to warn him not to waste his life, and three ghosts of girlfriends past, present and future remind him that he really loves Jenny (Jennifer Garner), the one he let get away.

A dark yet funny coming of age story about a teenage boy (Rory Culkin) dealing with the tense relationship between his parents (Alec Baldwin, Jill Hennessy), his combative older brother (Kieran Culkin) returning from the military, and falling for his neighbor (Emma Roberts), whose father (Timothy Hutton) has been alienated from his wife (Cynthia Nixon) after suffering some brain damage due to lyme disease.
