Jon Gosselin may have gotten the wish he secretly pretended he didn’t want: Freedom not just from ex-wife-to-be Kate, but also from the Gosselin family’s reality show.

News thundered across TV land on Tuesday that TLC is re-naming the show ‘Kate Plus Eight,’ effective Nov. 2nd.

‘Kate Plus Eight Minus Jon’ will focus on Kate’s role as a single mother as she manages the couple’s eight children on her own, as Jon is reduced to what sounds like cameo status.

Jon’s name was dumped from the title, but Gosselin wants you all to know that he wasn’t forced out, according to Us Weekly.

“He was not fired,” says Jon’s rep Mike Heller.

It’s a natural conclusion for some to draw, after hearing that TLC wanted to phase out the 32-year-old dad, who’s drawn criticism and embarrassment to the network ever since his romantic connections to a bevy of young blondes became very public.

In another unexpected twist, Jon has requested a delay in the couple’s divorce proceedings.

Claiming remorse over his recent behavior, Gosselin tells In Touch, “I used poor judgment in publicly socializing with other women so soon. I would like to get back with Kate as a partner in parenting.”

Do you think Jon is sincere…or could he be angling over money matters? Do you think dumping Jon can save the sinking show?

The re-branded ‘Kate Plus Eight’ launches Nov. 2nd.
