‘Full House‘ star Jodie Sweetin was on the ‘Today’ show this morning promoting her book, ‘UnSweetined,’ where she indicated that her battle with substances began at an important event for one of her co-stars.
Sweetin says she began drinking at Candance Cameron’s wedding in 1996 when she was about 14, and in her 20’s she developed a taste for harder substances. “At the time I started doing the hard drugs, the methamphetamine and coke and stuff, it was a lot easier to hide than drinking,” she said in an interview with Matt Lauer.
In her book she also admits to doing cocaine at the ‘New York Minute’ film premiere in 2004 – starring her other ‘Full House’ co-stars, the Olsen twins. ( “I look at photos from that event, and I didn’t even look strung out!” she writes).
And she says she somewhat blames her character for falling into drugs. “Everyone kind of expected you to be Stephanie Tanner…and I think part of establishing myself as a separate entity, I kind of did everything I could do be everything but Stephanie Tanner,” she said.
Sweetin has been sober for nearly one year.
