Lou Dobbs is saying his departure from CNN was ‘amicable.’

An inside source is saying CNN gave him $8 million dollars to leave, according to the New York Post.

“They wanted him out,” says the source.

CNN President Jon Klein and the opinionated Dobbs clashed over the cable channel’s stance on being a ‘middle-of-the-road’ media outlet.

Dobbs, 64, had a year and a half left on his contract, reportedly worth $12 million.

After the severance package was negotiated, Dobbs abruptly announced his departure last Wednesday live on ‘Lou Dobbs Tonight.’

“What they do is their business and I tried to accommodate them as best I could, but I’ve said for many years now that neutrality is not part of my being,” Dobbs said. “I have strong views about a lot of issues that are important to the country and I think are important to my audience.”

John King has been named Dobbs’ replacement; Dobbs’ next move remains unclear, although he is sitting down with Fox Newser Bill O’Reilly Monday night and getting spoofed on ‘SNL.’

“I truly believe that it’s also a liberating moment for me,” Dobbs said of his split with CNN in an interview with the Atlanta Constitution-Journal.
