And NBC well, it looked like Leno was going to have himself quite a comeback when his viewership spiked 17% on Monday. But by Wednesday, he was back down to where hes been.
Heres a look at how most of your prime-time favorites graded out ratings-wise this week.
DANCING WITH THE STARS (ABC) Averaged nearly 18 million viewers over three hours of prime-time real-estate this week. The only thing that draws a population bigger right now is NCIS.
NCIS (CBS) Combined week-leading 20.2 million viewer average with hour-leading 4.1 demo rating.
HOUSE (Fox) The usual impressive 5.1 demo rating won the Monday 8 p.m. hour.
BIG BANG THEORY (CBS) Just like House, we expect 5.1 demo ratings out of this now, too.
GREYS ANATOMY (ABC) As usual, it beat CSI in demos (5.0 rating vs. a 3.5), but lost in viewers (15 million vs. 14 million).
THE MENTALIST (CBS) Enjoyed its first decisive victory over Private Practice, trumping it in total viewers (15.8 million vs. 9 million) and demo rating (3.7 vs. 3.1).
SURVIVOR: SAMOA (CBS) Averaged 12.3 million viewers and a 3.8 rating. Won the Thursday 8 p.m. medal on both counts.
BONES (Fox) Episode featuring the charred remains of plus-sized lovers sparks show to second place with 9.8 million viewers. Takes out FlashForward in the process.
MODERN FAMILY (ABC) With 9.2 million viewers, its the third most popular comedy on TV behind Two and a Half Men and Big Bang.
CSI: NY (CBS) Episode featuring Skeet Ulrich as a serial killer beats Robin Roberts interview of Janet Jackson on ABC; scored 13.7 million viewers and a 3.2 demo rating.
MERCY (NBC) Won the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour with 7.8 million viewers. What do you know, NBC launched a show.
CSI (CBS) 15 million viewers tops at 9 p.m. Thursday. Still below its season average.
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (ABC) With 14.4 million viewers, it was up over its season passer rating while going head to head with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Note: Sunday Night Football ratings on NBC killed everybody Sunday night, but the 10 oclock hour i.e. fourth-quarter time was brutal. The coverage scored a 7.7 rating among adults 18-49 that hour.
TRAUMA (NBC) Since when is 5.2 million viewers and fourth place a B?
NCIS: LOS ANGELES (CBS) 14.8 million viewers second place to Dancing with the Stars.
THE OFFICE (NBC) 7.4 million viewers/3.7 demo rating.
THE GOOD WIFE (CBS) Now we know where all of those Sons of Anarchy viewers are coming from Tuesday at 10; 12.7 million viewers and a 2.6 demo rating will get you first place on the broadcast networks.
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (CBS) Barney is single again, and everything is falling back into a familiar rhythm. Playbook episode scored 8.4 million viewers during competitive hour
CSI: MIAMI (CBS) An investigation of a horrific car accident?! Grademaster so missed it. 13.5 million people did not. Averaged a 3.8 in the key adult demo.
GLEE (Fox) Fourth place with 7.3 million viewers behind Law & Order: SVU. Doing well with young demos.
THE MIDDLE (ABC) With 7.1 million viewers, it showed it could build off a Modern Family rerun, which was plugged into the 8 p.m. slot after Hank got axed.
MELROSE PLACE (CW) Heather Locklear can still pack the house! (Sort of). Her glorious return as Amanda Woodward sparked the audience by 14% to. 1.5 million. Still a cable-sized audience, but you take improvement where you can get it. CW officials happy they got a 33% bump in the demo they sell ads off: women 18-34.
COMMUNITY (NBC) Come on! Its funny. Why dont more people watch. 5.1 million viewers shows no improvement.
THE FORGOTTEN (ABC) Its renewed and unspectacular. 7.7 million viewers is about what it always does.
ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE (CBS) Lost 8% of HIMYMs aud. Respectable.
GOSSIP GIRL (CW) 2.2 million viewers. No buzz is right.
CASTLE (ABC) Nearly 11 million sets of eyeballs. C+.
COUGAR TOWN (ABC) Lost 14% of Modern Familys audience but well admit it: 7.9 million is pretty good.
30 ROCK (NBC) Fully 20 percent of The Offices audience didnt like smartly-written comedy, and just went to sleep at 9:30?
JAY LENO SHOW (NBC) Perked up to a six-week high with 6.1 million viewers Monday but by Wednesday, it was back below 5 million. So much for the renaissance
PRIVATE PRACTICE (ABC) How did this show wind up here? Got schooled real bad by The Mentalist, thats how.
V (ABC) Called this one too soon. Slipped for the second week in a row to 9.3 million viewers and third place.
PARKS AND RECREATION (NBC) Once again, it lost a huge chunk (10 percent) of Communitys not-so-chunky audience.
FRINGE (FOX) Not even in the top 10 in terms of demo rating. When your audience is only 5.9 million, thats on the fringe, baby.
HEROES (NBC) Leno had more viewers on Monday (6.1 million compared to 5.1 million). That, my friends, is failure.
