There’s a host of fresh ‘Blood’ coming to HBO’s vampire hit for Season 3, which recently began production, and it’s shaping up to be very much a family affair (and, of course, very sexy).

The first thing we can look forward to is meeting Lafayette’s mom: Alfre Woodard (who was last seen on CBS’ ill-fated ‘Three Rivers’) has been tapped to guest star as the mother of Merlotte’s sassy, vampire-blood-dealing kitchen cook, Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis).

Maternal musings in Bon Temps also extend to Sam Merlotte, who will find his estranged mama Melinda, to be played by ‘Law & Order’ alum, J. Smith-Cameron. It was also announced that Cooper Huckabee (‘Southland’) will play Sam’s father.

We also have a new tall, dark and handsome vampire on the block.

James Frain, who’s appeared on everything from ’24’ and ‘FlashForward’ to ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ and ‘The Tudors,’ has landed the role of Franklin Mott, Tara Thornton’s “over-protective” new love interest, who debuts in the second episode. In the Charlaine Harris book series, Mott is described as a “tall, dark, and handsome vampire who seems to have an immediate and torrid connection to Tara.”

Torrid might also aptly describe Vampire Eric’s new plaything, Yvetta.

Soaper Natasha Alam (‘The Bold and The Beautiful’) is joining the cast in a possibly recurring role as Eric’s new dancer at Fangtasia, according to EW.

But Season 3 isn’t all about the vamps … we finally meet our first werewolf, and that’s likely the most exciting casting announcement for ‘True Blood’ fans.

We finally have our Alcide!

Joe Manganiello (the hottie you may have seen on ‘How I Met Your Mother’) has landed the plum role of Alcide Herveaux, the sexy werewolf who becomes yet another suitor to the luckiest lady in Louisiana, Sookie Stackhouse.

Summertime vamping can’t come soon enough.
