HBO Sets Date for ‘Pacific’ WWII Miniseries

On Sunday, March 14, HBO is heading back to war with ‘The Pacific,’ its miniseries companion to 2001’s highly acclaimed ‘Band of Brothers.’

Like ‘Band of Brothers’ – which collected a half-dozen Emmys – ‘The Pacific’ is executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. The new mini will air in 10 weekly installments, concluding on May 16.

‘The Pacific’ is based on a pair of books – Robert Leckie’s ‘Helmet for My Pillow’ and Eugene B. Sledge’s ‘With the Old Breed’ – and follows a group of Marines as they make their way through the Pacific Theater. Along the way, they brave battles at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.

Helping fill the ranks are James Badge Dale (’24’), Jon Seda (‘Close to Home’) and Joe Mazzello (‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’).

Previously HBO announced premiere dates for Season 4 of ‘Big Love’ (January 10), Season 2 of ‘The Life and Times of Tim’ (February 19) and ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’ (February 19).
